Maya lost 102 pounds

Transformation of the Day: Maya lost 102 pounds. She wanted to live her life to the fullest and reach her full potential, but her weight affected her self-confidence and sense of self-worth. VSG surgery is the tool she used to transform.

What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up
My motivation and inspiration came from wanting to finally just live my life to the fullest potential. My weight impacted my confidence and self-worth over the years, causing me to pass up tons of opportunities because I didn’t feel good enough. Although I hate that it took me losing weight to see my worth, I am happy that I’m finally able to confidently chase my dreams and live the fearless life I’ve always wanted.

Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
Yes, I had VSG/Gastric Sleeve weight loss surgery on June 19, 2021.

How did you change your eating habits?
Due to VSG, my stomach size was reduced, so I eat very small portions. Aside from that, I am very mindful of what I eat. I cut back on heavy, fried, and sugary foods tremendously. Now, I focus on high protein and low carb meals.

What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
I don’t work out often, but I have a busy toddler to run after!

What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
Highest weight: 349 pounds / Surgery Weight: 329 pounds / Current weight: 247 pounds

What is your height?
I’m 5’8″.

When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started the process of finding a surgeon and got approved in April 2021. As I noted, my surgery took place on June 19, 2021. I reached eight months post-op this month (February 19).

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
My journey is MY journey, and I’m going to trust that my body is doing exactly what it needs to do on its own timing. As long as I do my part, it will do its part. Have patience and trust the process!

What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Do not compare yourself to anyone else because our bodies are all different. Instead, focus on doing what works for YOU. What works for someone else may not work for you and vice versa. There’s no “one size fits all” process when it comes to weight loss.
